What is Clean Beauty?
There is no official definition—the beauty industry uses the term in different ways. At BONSANA, we define Clean Beauty as follows: products are vegan (no animal-derived ingredients), cruelty-free (no animal testing), have transparent ingredient lists with clearly stated concentrations, and avoid controversial ingredients that offer no necessary skincare benefits. This does not exclude active ingredient-based skincare with acids, retinol, or vitamin C—clean is not synonymous with “without active ingredients.”

What Clean Beauty DOES NOT mean
Clean Beauty is no guarantee of “better” results — some “natural” ingredients can be more irritating than synthetic ones. It is no substitute for medical treatment for acute skin conditions. And it is no promise of a cure — even Clean Beauty cannot work miracles, but provides cosmetic care within the legal framework of the Swiss Ordinance on Cosmetic Products (VKos).
Clean Beauty FAQ
Are all BONSANA products Clean Beauty?
No — CARMEX (USA, since 1937) contains beeswax and lanolin and is therefore not vegan. The brand communicates this transparently. All other brands in the range are consistently vegan and cruelty-free.
Vegan and cruelty-free—what’s the difference?
Vegan means free of animal-derived ingredients (no beeswax, lanolin, carmine, etc.). Cruelty-free means no animal testing during development. A product can be vegan but not cruelty-free (or vice versa)—the BONSANA brands are both.
Are clean beauty products more expensive?
Not necessarily. SKINCYCLOPEDIA active ingredient serums starting at 8.95 CHF are among the most affordable clean beauty options. MAD HIPPIE is positioned in the US indie premium segment (28–38 CHF). HIDEHERE is priced at 7.95 CHF—affordable K-Beauty clean.
Where can I find the ingredient list?
Fully disclosed on every product page. Contact us if you have questions about specific ingredients.
